Great Himalaya Trails on Wheels

GHT on Wheels challenge is a world record attempt by our founder Mangal Lama for the first ever solo mountain biking expedition on the upper route of the Great Himalaya Trail (GHT), a network of roughly 1700 km of trails through the Himalayas from East to West in Nepal. GHT is the banner that covers the entire Nepali Himalayas: the majestic Kanchenjunga region, popular trekking areas of Everest and Annapurna, and awe inspiring and yet relatively untouched trails of Humla and Darchula in the West.

One trail to rule them all, Great Himalaya Trails is a network of roughly 1700 km of trails through the Nepal Himalayas.

Mangal Lama is a former international mountain biking champion from Nepal, and title holder of 10 national and international competitions over the course of his 10 year career. The attempt will be along the 1700 km trail over the course of 70 days, crossing 22 passes above 5500 m. With an uphill battle of 1,700 m elevation gain per day and cycling a total of 25 km per day, by the end Mangal will have travelled with a total elevation gain of over 88,000m. This attempt is a true test of human endurance and preservation in one of the harshest climates in the world.

Support Mangal for GHT on Wheels

Help Mangal cover part of the project costs by donating to our GoFundMe campaign. This campaign enables supporters who are able to donate online to directly contribute to GHT on Wheels and its mission.

Mangal’s mission is to promote the Nepal section of the Great Himalaya Trail in the national and international area, showcase the unparalleled potential of mountain biking in the Nepal Himalayas, and bring to light climate change related challenges faced by people of the surroundings.

Mangal began GHT on Wheels at Kanchenjunga Base Camp on April 1, 2022. Learn more
